Scrub Tech experience required. Must be able to scrub c-sections.
Under the supervision of the department of nursing, this position performs the receptionist and secretarial duties on the patient care unit, and serves as the focal communication source in the nursing station through interaction with patients, visitors, staff, other departments and physicians. Under the supervision of the department of nursing, this position performs various duties assisting the staff nurses in the treatment and care of patients in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the hospital.


  1. Acts as receptionist for the OB unit, answering inquiries of a general nature by: patients, visitors, other departments, nursing staff and physicians. 
  2. Maintains a high degree of patient and employee confidentiality. 
  3. Demonstrates knowledge of medical terminology. 
  4. Functions as communication center during emergency situations, filling stat orders and requests. 
  5. Maintains a clean, safe and functional working environment and is able to organize and prioritize work effectively. 
  6. Assembles, maintains and tears down patient charts and maintains chart forms for use by nurses, physicians and anesthesiologists. 
  7. Correctly maintains OB census, outpatient record, delivery log, and newborn screen log 
  8. Correctly transcribes M.D. orders to Kardex, and medications to MAR, and faxes all orders to pharmacy. 
  9. Correctly orders labs, tests and procedures in the Meditech system, admits and discharges patients from that system appropriately. 
  10. Orders adequate office and medical supplies used in nurses station. Receives and stocks nurses station with supplies.
  11. Maintains accurate on-call lists, telephone numbers, calendars and prenatal records. 
  12. Maintains accurate birth records on appropriate documents.
  13. Understands infant security system and monitors entrance to nursery at all times.
  14. Demonstrates knowledge of basic infection control and standard precautions.
  15. Assists nurses in care of newborns and adult patients. 
  16. Reports abnormal findings to nurse promptly. 
  17. Understands sterile technique and sets up and tears down vaginal delivery tables correctly. 
  18. Does monthly checks for expired items.


  • Scrub tech experience required as well as Scrub Tech Certificate.
