CNA Required

Under the supervision of the nursing department, this position performs as a receptionist, ward clerk, and to a lesser extent TCU/ICU Tech. Is accountable as the focal communication source in the TCU/ICU units through interaction with patients, visitors, staff, physicians, and other departments. Responsibilities include all aspects of clerical duties, and the monitoring of the telemetry patients and rhythm interpretation. Adhering to all standards of nursing care and promoting teamwork among co-workers.

1. Maintains a high degree of patient and employee confidentiality.
2. Demonstrates good customer relations with patients, families, visitors, physicians, staff, and other departments; both directly and in telephone skills.
3. Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively.
4. Correctly uses computer system to order lab work, diagnostic procedures, and treatments as prescribed.
5. Understands and follows written and verbal instructions.
6. Knowledge of medical terminology.
7. Maintains adequate quantity of forms, materials, supplies and equipment inventory on assigned unit.
8. Correctly transcribes physician orders to Kardex, medications to the MAR, and properly organizes patient medical record for TCU/ICU patients.
9. Clarifies MD orders which are not clear, particularly when written in poor penmanship.
10. Follow established policies and procedures without fail.
11. Maintains accurate patient census, admission and discharge logs, and telemetry patient logs, for TCU/ICU.
12. Acts rapidly and calmly during emergencies and provides the necessary materials called for by nurse or Physician.
13. Assists in patient discharge/transfer from TCU/ICU.
14. Documents all care given.
15. Assists in completing TCU/ICU charge tickets as per medical record documentation.
16. Run telemetry strips every 4 hours and interpret while working in TCU/ICU.
17. Correctly assists staff as needed with: vital signs, weights, interpretation of cardiac monitor, and accurately records intake and output. Notifies nurse of any significant change or deviation from normal.
18. Participates in Performance Improvement Activities monthly as designated.
