Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Department of Nursing, this position as a licensed practical nurse bears responsibility and accountability for the nursing care patients receive within the realms of LPN scope of practice, nurses code of ethics and the Indiana Nurse Practice Act. Inherent in this practice is the nursing process, the assessment of the patient status, the plan of nursing actions as directed by the R.N., the implementation of that plan, and the evaluation of the plan. The Med-Surg. LPN must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status and interpret the appropriate information needed to provide age-specific needs and to provide the care as described in nursing policies and procedures.

  • LPN license in good standing in the State of Indiana.
  • CPR certification
  • Annual Fire/Safety Inservice attendance.
  • Annual PPD & influenza vaccine

  • Good knowledge of medical terminology
  • Use of correct terminology, spelling and grammar in documentation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.


  • Venipuncture for IV fluids and meds.
  • Basic nursing skills needed to function on a Med-Surg Unit.
  • Basic arrhythmia interpretation/intervention.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.


  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • One year medical-surgical experience or successful completion of a preceptorship program.


  • Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and behaviors appropriate to the populations (s) served, and
  • based on specific criteria and/or age specific considerations, as follows:
  • Ability to assess and interpret age specific data.
  • Possess skills and knowledge to perform treatments and administer.
  • Medications to infants, children, adolescents, adults, geriatric adults.
  • Demonstrates age specific communication skills in care of patients.
  • Knowledge of growth and development.
