Regulatory Requirements:

    • Certification as a registered Medical Laboratory Technologist, Medical Technologist, ASCP or AMT or Clinical Laboratory Scientist designation through the ASCLS.      
    • Qualified to be a Technical Supervisor, General Supervisor, or Testing Personnel under CLIA'88.
    • Adheres to the hospital Corporate Compliance Plan
    • Annual PPD
    • Annual Fire/Safety Training

  • Reading and writing for communication and for understanding
  • Verbal language sufficient for patient and co-worker communication
  • Medical and Laboratory Terminology

Skills:

  • Computer literacy
  • Typing/Keyboard
  • Printer Operation/Maintenance/Troubleshooting

  • Copier Operation/Maintenance/Troubleshooting
  • Phone System Operation

Education/Experience:

  • Requires an Associates or Bachelor's degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
  • Clinical experience as a component of educational program.
  • One to three years clinical hospital working experience is desired.

Demonstrates knowledge skills and behaviors appropriate to the population served, based on specific criteria and/or age specific considerations, as follows

  • Has the ability to perform phlebotomy and capillary puncture procedures for neonates and infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
  • Has the ability to communicate patient preparation and procedure information to the parents of neonates and infants, and to communicate at the level of patient understanding for children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
  • Has the ability to obtain and interpret information from the parents of neonates and infants, and directly form children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients necessary for appropriate patient care.
  • Has the ability to interpret laboratory test results based on the normal ranges for neonates and infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
